  1. When I first got my Rockstar I noticed that it wasn't performing as I thought it should. The symptom was an on/off surge when pedaling the bike. It would propel the bike for a few seconds and then cut off. Not having ever ridden a mid-drive, I didn't know how the pedal assist should work (when compared to Sondors' hub drive bikes which I have an X and XS) but I was fairly confident it shouldn't be acting erratic like it was. After speaking with Tech Support and discussing how a mid-drive motor works, I found out the rear frame mounted sensor receives a 'signal' to power the motor from the spoke mounted magnet as the back wheel turns. I suspected that my magnet was attached to the spoke too far from the sensor as it passes by. Sure enough, after send this photo to Tech Support they sent me a special bit that fits the magnet on the spoke so I could slide it down even with the sensor. Once I repositioned the magnet the bike runs sooooo much smoother.
  2. Until I get a permanent solution, this kickstand works fine on my Rockstar. When I first mounted it, the kickstand wouldn't deploy quite enough (due to the angle of the frame clamp). The weight of the bike pushed it forward, keeping it from standing. I used a Dremmel tool to grind the hinge stop to get the kickstand to deploy another couple inches at the foot/pad.
  3. I recently got my bike back and while riding yesterday, I noticed a light cracking/creaking/popping sound coming from the head tube area so I'll find an instructional video on greasing it. Thanks for the info!
  4. It's going to be a while before I get to the kickstand. After 19 miles on my bike , the mid-drive sounded like it was self destructing and Sondors Tech Support requested I box the bike up and send it back to them for analysis and repair.
  5. Nice job on the swap! Wraps look neat and organized. I too recently received my bike (Thursday) and after a short ride felt the need to replace my handlebars. I like a little more rise for an upright sitting position so I went with a set of BMX bars with a 4" rise. I also replaced the seat with one from Sondors' XS model. I'm still trying to find the instructions on setting the percentages for each level. I changed it to nine PAS levels but I can't find how to set each level. If you figure that out, please share.
  6. I plan to take mine next week to a shop that MIG/TIG welds and have them add a small aluminum plate that I can drill and tap threads and use one of the standard kickstands on an XS. This way, I can remove it quickly if I take an aggressive ride or add it for an urban/paved trail ride. Sondors should seriously consider adding Bosses for this during the frame fabrication so customers have that option
  7. Just a FYI post, I just received my new Rockstar and thought I was having issues with powering up the bike. I unplugged and re-plugged both electrical connections and charged the battery to full power but no change. In fact, it just takes another second or so longer than previous LCD's to boot up. I treated the Rockstar like my XS and discovered that I wasn't pressing the power button long enough.....
  8. Anyone documented the Rockstar controller functions and settings? Mine recently shipped (finally) and although the display/controller functions similar to other Sondors controllers, I can't seem to find instructions for changing the PAS % on the 3, 5, or 9 position options. I toggled mine to nine PAS settings but haven't figured out how to control each of the nine positions from 1% to 99%. Also, I don't recall seeing the AI Sensitivity setting on my X or XS bikes. I think it's for changing the Ambient Light for improving the visibility in sunlight. The Rockstar settings are as follows: Speed Limit Unit (Imperial or Metric) Auto Off (1-9) Not sure but maybe the amt. of idle time before auto shutdown Brightness (100, 75, 50, 30, 10) Power View (Power or Current) AL Sensitivity (0-5) Trip Reset (Y/N) Vibration (Y/N) Feedback from controller buttons Service (Y/N) Info for servicing or troubleshooting Assist Mode (3, 5, 9) Number of PAS options BACK (to top of list)
  9. DavidN, thanks for posting the admin password. I have a request in to Sondors Tech Support to provide instructions to adjust the PAS settings. Have you made any Advanced Setting changes? Do you know if any instructions are available?
  10. I also received and installed my new air ride front suspension for my X and rode it this morning. It is a noticeably better quality shock. I'm glad Sondors decided to improve the quality of their front shocks and suggest they convert solely to this shock as opposed to the spring model. Thanks Sondors! I'm now patiently awaiting the delivery of my new XS bike...… 😀
  11. Reddy, my bike is kept inside the garage, never outside, and I take very good care of all my 'toys'. When I removed the tire all was dry inside, no water at all. The reason I'm certain it's a defective tire, is because the rubber was much more thin at the splitting location. The attached photo is of my front tire, with the same mileage as the defective rear tire. It does have some wear but as you can see, nothing like the rear tire. The first video attachment is a short clip of the tire before I replaced it, showing the tire warp that could have caused the irregular wear and splitting. The second clip shows the entire circumference of tread to show the tread clearly wearing more near the splitting location, more evidence of a defect. This info is being offered as feedback to the forum with the hope that it gets back to Sondors to discuss product quality with their suppliers. 20180919_183519.mp4 20180919_183550.mp4
  12. I won't argue the tread wear but even so, the tire shouldn't be separating.
  13. Hey Biknut, what are the specs on Buffy's handlebars? Looking for the clamp diameter, rise, any bends, etc. My hope is that they would fit my X model..... Thanks!!
  14. I ordered one on Wednesday but I really don't think the tire should be falling apart like this. I wanted to document it for Sondors to provide feedback to their tire company Chaoyang.

  16. Has anyone experienced a tire separation issue like this? I have 1148 miles on the tire but all have been in the last eight months. I run 17 psi in the tires.

    200 miles on the odometer!

I was thinking about adding a thread on odometer comparisons to see how many miles are on the bikes and when they were purchased. I purchased mine last Christmas (delivered 12/27/18) and here's my speedometer as of 9/6/18 showing 1168 miles so far:
  18. My cruiser handlebars are just a set off a Schwinn bike I have and I had to add a set of bushings/spacers since they were 1" diameter. There's plenty of bars on the market, you'll just need to determine which style, riser height, etc that you want. The wiring on the handlebar control was short so I relocated it down the bars a little but all other controls (brakes, throttle, 7-speed twist) had plenty of slack. Here's a photo:
  19. I have an X model and I have to say the current suspension shock leaves a lot to be desired. I understand Sondors has an air shock coming in October and that should be the upgrade that will meet most rider's expectations.
  20. I took a set of cruiser handlebars off a Schwinn I have and added a spacer to mount them. I like the upright riding position they allow and makes for an easy standup position.
  21. I just set mine to: 1-10 2-20 3-50 4-70 5-95 I took it for a quick ride and this made the difference I was looking for. When I go slow, I want to go real slow, so this range works for me, and I have the #3 setting at 50% for a wider range than the factory settings. I'm glad owners can modify these for their own personal likes. Thanks Jim!
  22. The photo in the KD51C manual looks like the LCD unit I received. Starting at page 9 in the manual, I checked and mine is set with the 0-5 range option (which is what I want), but the one sentence ratio settings example isn't clear to me to determine where to start. The settings currently loaded in the LCD are too high, so how do I determine the assistance range to be able to travel, for example, 7-8 MPH while pedaling in 7th gear? I know it'll depend on how hard I pedal but no guidelines whatsoever are shown. Feedback: If all of these LCD's are shipped with default settings that mine has (and apparently Jim Siebel's also), the customer experience may not meet Sondors' goal(?). I rode my wife's Rad Rover (I know, but it was her choice not mine) and the PAS ranges are spread evenly and are noticeably progressive from 1 - 5. If someone has proper gradual PAS settings in their LCD, please provide the values. Thanks!!
  23. So after a couple hundred miles on my Sondors X and a couple searches on the forum I found the Introduction thread. I've got to admit, these e-bikes are fun! I have several 'toys' and I find myself looking forward to riding the Sondors in the evenings after work and on weekends. I have mostly paved bike path miles under my belt with maybe 10% off road so I'm not the 45MPH mountain bike rider but I have been having some real fun. I feel like a kid again, even at the age of 60! Anyway, I do want a couple of add-on's and also want to try a couple modifications. One in particular is some modified handlebars. I enjoy riding on nature bike paths and woods settings, standing up, using throttle only. In order to do that (at 6'3"), I'd need some BMX or Cruiser style handlebars to be able to get into a full standing position. If anyone has customized Original or X model with handlebar mods, please post photos and your riding experience with them. I look forward to reading all the info here on the forum, thank the moderators in advance for their work to make it accessible, and hope to be able to add some value myself.
